Longwood Falls to No. 7 James Madison, 15-8

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University women's lacrosse was unable to contain the #7 JMU Dukes in the final thirty minutes, as James Madison outscored the Lancers 11-5 in the second half for the 15-8 win Friday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.

The Lancers (0-7) were led by Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) who recorded four points on three goals and an assist while, JMU's (6-1) Annie Wagner had a game-high six goals in the win. Longwood will return to action on Sunday, March 25, when they host La Salle in a 12 p.m. match up.

The Lancers jumped on the scoreboard first after Warehime recorded an unassisted goal at the 25:18 mark for the 1-0 lead. After JMU's Natasha Fuchs tied the game at one, Christine Comeau/Whitby, Ontario (Sinclair Secondary) put Longwood back up by one with 22:36 left in the first half.

Led by Wagner's two goals in a three goal run, the Dukes jumped out to a 4-2 lead with 5:13 left on the clock before the break. Sisters Cathleen Strain/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) and Shannon Strain/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) teamed up with 1:12 left in the half to cut JMU's lead to 4-3 heading into halftime.

JMU recorded two quick goals in the opening minutes of the second half to build a 6-3 lead over the Lancers with 27:59 left in the match-up. Warehime brought the deficit back down to two goals on her second goal of the game with 23:16 on the clock. The Dukes offense took over from there, scoring six goals in the next eleven minutes to take the 11-4 lead with 8:29 left in the contest.

Kathleen Barry/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) snapped JMU's run at the 6:37 mark, taking a pass from Strain and firing past the Dukes' keeper Kelly Wetzel. Warehime recorded her third goal with 2:19 left in the game to cut the deficit to 12-6. The Lancers were unable to get any closer falling 15-8.

Jennifer Holliday/Gaithersburg, Md. (Quince Orchard) had a strong performance between the pipes for the Lancers, making 14 stops in sixty minutes of action while Wetzel recorded seven saves in 55:45 of time in net and Morgan Kelly recorded two saves in 4:15 of action for Longwood.
