Le Moyne Downs Mount St. Mary's, 16-10
SOLVAY, N. Y. – Le Moyne scored nine-straight goals in a span of eight minutes and 59 seconds in the first and second periods en route to a 16-10 victory against Mount St. Mary's in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday.
Casey Paris (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) posted five goals for the second-straight contest to pace the Mount (0-6) while Katie Falatach (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) recorded two goals and an assist. Kathleen Rossetti (Havre de Grace, Md./Perry Hall) added a marker and two assists while Jenna Duffy (Bel Air, Md./Catholic) chipped in a goal and a helper in the loss.
Amanda Keegan led the Dolphins (4-4) with four goals and an assist. Meghan Burgoon found the twine four times and Beth Sierotnik recorded three markers in the winning effort.
Le Moyne used a 9-0 run at the end of the first half and the start of the final stanza to take the advantage it would not relinquish and go on to even the series against the Mountaineers that started last season. After Paris knotted the game at 4 at 17:02, Keegan fueled a 9-0 spurt by the Dolphins with three goals in a nine minute span.
Lisa McCarty started a run and handed Le Moyne the lead it would not relinquish on a free-position goal with 5:58 left in the first half. After Keegan converted an 8-meter shot at 26:23, McKenzie Gray set up Burgoon 10 seconds later. Leah Mazella scored on a free-position attempt at 28:02 before Keegan found the twine unassisted eight seconds later. Sierotnik capped a 10-4 first half with an 8-meter score with five ticks on the clock.
Kylie Rosette started the scoring in the second half with a free-position goal at 31:46 before Keegan converted the Dolphin's sixth 8-meter shot in the spurt at 33:02 to hand Le Moyne an eight-goal advantage. Paris halted the run with an unassisted goal at 33:41 before Rossetti set up Paris at 36:08 to cut the deficit to 12-6.
Mazella then set up Burgoon before Paris and Rossetti each converted free-position attempts at 41:37 and 44:16, respectively. Lisa McCarthy helped the Dolphins answer by setting up Rosette and Sierotnik to reclaim a seven-marker edge at 15-8 with 8:14 left. After Duffy set up Falatach at 54:25, the senior found the twine unassisted 85 seconds later. Kari DeWick found the twine with five seconds remaining to cap the 16-10 victory.
Mount St. Mary's jumped out to a 3-2 advantage in the first half. Sierotnik and Burgoon scored to open the game sandwiched in between a Katelyn Catanese (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) marker for a 2-1 edge at 3:43. Falatach converted an 8-meter shot at 8:23 and then set up Paris' first marker 13 seconds later for the Mountaineers' only lead of the match at 3-2. Burgoon and Keegan responded with consecutive scores to reclaim the margin at 4-3 midway through the stanza. Rosetti set up Paris to square the match with 12:58 left until the intermission, but thanks to six free-position goals Le Moyne took the lead for good.
Samantha Falcone made five saves for the Dolphins while Jane Karger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) turned away nine shots for the Mount. Paris notched five goals in a game for the fourth time in her career and moved ahead of former teammate Erin LaMotte (137, 2002-05) for fifth place on the program's all-time career points list with 140.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday in the Northeast Conference opener at home against Saint Francis (Pa.). Game time is 3:00 p.m.
