Campbell Leads No. 2 Dowling Past Dominican, 20-8
Patchogue, NY- Junior Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) lit up the board as he netted four goals and dished off a team high five assists to lead the Golden Lions to a 20-8 victory over Dominican College on March 24. The Golden Lions push to a 3-1 record on the season as the Chargers drop to 1-5.
The Golden Lions opened with a six goal streak kicked off by John McClure (Brampton, Ontario) off of Campbell's first feed of the day in the first minute. Campbell picked up the next two tallies while CJ Leary (Bay Shore, NY) and Kevin Rimmer (Ronkonkoma, NY) each added for a 5-0 edge. Joe Biondolillo (Holtsville, NY) netted his first collegiate goal to cap the streak. Dominican was able to sneak in two past goalkeeper Nick Tracey (Farmingville, NY) within the last minutes of the quarter as Remo Montalbano and Owen Smith III capitalized.
The second quarter scoring was kept minimal as Dowling's Keith Lorenzo (Ronkonkoma, NY) capitalized on a Campbell dish with 7:59 on the clock. Smith would pick up an unassisted tally for the Chargers, but Dominican would not find the net again before the half. With less then two minutes left to play, Leary kicked off another DC scoring streak that would carry over to the third quarter and balloon the lead to 15-3.
Dowling kept command for the remainder of the game as they went on to seal the 20-8 victory.
Leary finished with four goals on the day and McClure and Nick Cotter (Whitby, Ontario) each pitched in with three goals and an assist. Gregory Graziano (East Setauket, NY) went 18-28 on faceoffs for Dowling. Alex Jones led the Chargers with four points as he netted three goals and added an assist.
The Golden Lion defense was on their toes today with Kyle Karam (Selden, NY) leading the defense with four caused turnovers while Biondolillo scooped up 10 ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Joe Assante made an astounding 22 saves in net for Dominican while Tracey earned the win for Dowling, giving up only three goals and making seven stops. Michael Breiner (West Babylon, NY) closed out the game in goal for the Golden Lions making six stops and allowing only one goal.
The Golden Lions are back in action on April 1, when they play host to Southern New Hampshire College at Stony Brook University. Face-off is set for 1:00 PM.
