Wilmington Falls to Molloy, 20-10

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington College were downed by the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 20-10 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Wilmington jumped on the board just a minute and a half into the game when Colby Bugda found the back of the net. Molloy responded with five unanswered goals before Amanda Jenkins scored for the Wildcats. Again, the Lions ran off a streak of five unanswered tallies that put the visitors ahead by a score of 10-2. The ‘Cats closed the first half with two quick goals in just over the last minute to head into the break trailing by six (12-6).

The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second half as Amanda Jenkins netted two quick scores to cut the deficit to just four (12-8). For the third time in the game, Molloy ran off another five goal string to pull away from the hosts, and held the ‘Cats at bay to close out the game.

Freshman Amanda Jenkins led the Wildcats with five goals and junior Colby Bugda added a hat trick. Classmate Amy Waggoner added a goal and an assist, while sophomore Kelly Wojciechowski rounded out the scoring for Wilmington.

Molloy was paced by Kristina Wargo's five goals four assist performance. Erin Brady added four goals and four assists, while Kerianne Stiene and Kristin Lang each tallied a hat trick. Lori Sollitto chipped in with two goals and an assist while Rebecca LaFlare netted a pair of goals. Samantha Modik rounded out the Lions scoring, as she tallied a single goal.

Wilmington's freshman goal keeper, Amber Smith (0-2) recorded 18 saves in goal as she took the loss. Molloy split time between Alicia Frisch and Carmen Sanfillippo. Frisch started the game and picked up the win as she notched seven saves in the first half. Sanfillippo closed out the game, stopping seven shots in goal for the Lions.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 2-3 on the season, while Molloy improved their record to 2-5 on the year. The Wildcats are slated to return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Arcadia University to take on the Knights in a 4:00 PM game.
