Hamilton Falls to No. 6 Nazareth, 11-6
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Nationally ranked No. 6 Nazareth College scored the first six goals of the game and went on to an 11-6 non-league win against host Hamilton College at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 24.
Chad Amidon '07 (Onondaga HS) and Conor O'Keefe '07 paced the Nazareth offense with two goals and one assist apiece. Amidon also won 8 of 10 faceoffs. Kevin Kimball '07 and Jordan Hirsch '07 added two goals apiece. Ryan Hotaling '07 (Onondaga HS) chipped in one goal and three assists. Pat Mullin '07 made nine saves on 12 shots on goal before he left the game after the third quarter. Francis Donald '07 led the defense with eight ground balls.
Both Clark Winter '07 and Peter Gerrity '09 scored two goals for Hamilton (2-3 overall). All three of the Continentals' losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division III.
The game was scoreless for more than eight minutes until Kimball broke the ice with 6:45 left in the first quarter. He added his sixth goal this year 3:20 later for a 2-0 lead. Hotaling made it a 3-0 advantage with 1:56 remaining in the quarter.
Amidon put the Golden Flyers (5-1) up by four goals just 45 seconds into the second quarter. Erinn O'Hara '10 (Camillus, N.Y.) notched his team-high 11th goal 1:55 later. Hirsch gave Nazareth a 6-0 lead on his sixth goal with 2:23 left in the second. Hamilton's Mike Daley '07 finally stopped the bleeding on his third goal this year with 1:52 remaining before the half.
The Golden Flyers clinched the victory with three goals in the opening 2:38 of the third quarter to move out to a 9-1 lead. O'Hara assisted on two of the three goals.
This game marked the first meeting between these two upstate New York programs. The Continentals host nationally ranked No. 13 Ithaca College for another non-league game on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. Nazareth returns home to face nationally ranked No. 14 SUNY Cortland on Wednesday, March 28.
