Skidmore Falls to St. John Fisher, 10-4
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- St. John Fisher scored the game's first five goals on the way to a 10-4 non-conference men's lacrosse win over Skidmore College, Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
The Cardinals led 5-0 at the half before Micah Hawes-Sivitz (Conway, Mass.) got the Thoroughbreds on the board with a man-up goal from Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, N.J.) at 12:32 of the third. Chuck McNeil (Spencer, Mass.) cut the lead to three, 5-2 at 9:30.
Dave Malone (Penfield, N.Y.) scored for Fisher at 5:10 to make it 6-2, but McNeil scored his second goal at 4:23 to cut the lead back to three, 6-3. The Cardinals regrouped and scored the final three goals of the quarter, including two goals by Chris Schmidt (West Genesee, N.Y.) in the final eight seconds to make it 9-3. Schmidt scored with eight seconds to play and then took the face-off from Dave Wood and moved quickly down the field to score with four seconds left.
Schmidt finished with three goals and an assist, while Malone ended with three goals. Matt Hargather had a goal and three assists. McNeil led the Thoroughbreds with two goals.
St. John Fisher (3-2) goalie Brian Cummings (West. Genesee, N.Y.) had 14 saves. John Capitani (Garden City, N.Y.) had seven saves for Skidmore (0-5).
The Thoroughbreds host Amherst on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
