No. 2 Northwestern Runs by Boston University, 17-4
BOSTON - The Boston University lacrosse team took on No. 2-ranked Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field and dropped a 17-4 contest to the two-time defending national champion. Freshman Traci Landy recorded three goals for the Terriers, who fall to 2-4 on the year.
The Wildcats (5-1) were paced by sophomores Hilary Bowen and Hannah Neilsen, who each tallied nine points. Bowen recorded six goals and three assists, while Neilsen tallied five goals and four assists. Fellow sophomore Morgan Lathrop turned in a 12-save effort.
Northwestern scored the game's first eight goals and held a 7-0 halftime lead. Junior Lauren Morton got the Terriers on the board with 24:55 left in regulation.
Freshman McKinley Curro earned a pair of assists, while classmate Erica Baumgartner and sophomore Sarah Dalton each added a helper. Sophomore Molly Collins caused four turnovers and senior Noelle Hopper collected a game-high five ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Jenna Golden made nine saves.
The Terriers held a 13-10 advantage in draw controls, including a game-best five from Morton. Northwestern outshot BU, 31-22, and had a slim 11-10 edge in ground balls.
BU will return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when they play host to cross-town rival Boston College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
