No. 9 UMW Falls to Dickinson, 13-10, in Overtime
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Dickinson College overcame a 9-5 deficit with 16 minutes remaining to defeat the ninth-ranked University of Mary Washington, 13-10, in overtime on Sunday at the Battleground. The loss snaps the Eagles' win streak at six, and drops their overall record to 8-2.
UMW jumped out of the gate with the early lead, scoring the first two goals and leading, 6-4, at halftime. Senior attacker Kaitlyn Barker scored four first half goals to pace UMW.
UMW opened the second half by scoring three of the first four goals to take a 9-5 lead with less than 16 minutes remaining. But Dickinson scored the next four goals in regulation to send the game to overtime, and scored the first three goals of extra period to take a 12-9 lead. A goal by Barker cut the deficit to two at 12-10, but Dickinson scored again in the final seconds for the three-goal victory.
Barker led UMW with five goals, while Caitlin Erickson added two goals and one assist. Dickinson was led by Jena Boccetti's four goals and Katie Austin's three goals. Gabby Joffie earned the win for Dickinson, making 12 saves, while Helena Polites had seven saves in defeat. The Eagles outshot Dickinson, 33-25, but sent 11 shots wide or high of goal.
The Eagles will host Marymount University on Wednesday at 4:00 pm in CAC action.
