Szefi Leads No. 8 Dartmouth Past Columbia, 11-5

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) poured in five goals, and the No. 8 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team defeated Columbia, 11-5, on Sunday.

With the game tied, 3-3, with just 12:05 gone, Dartmouth exploded for three goals before halftime and four straight after the break to take control. The Big Green (4-3 overall, 1-1 Ivy) broke a three-game losing streak.

Szefi netted three of her goals in the first half, and two more after the break. Her fifth came with 6:45 gone in the second half, giving Dartmouth a 10-3 lead.

Sophomore Katherine Chiusano (Medford, N.J.) had a big day as well, with a personal-best six points. She scored back-to-back goals at the end of the first half for a 6-3 lead and then added a third. She also had three assists.

Also scoring for the Big Green were junior Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) with two goals and senior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) with one. Szefi assisted on Chiusano's first goal of the day and finished with six points.

Senior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) didn't score a goal for the second straight game, but she had three assists, four draw controls and three ground balls.

For the Lions (3-4 overall, 0-2 Ivy), Elyse Pultz and Kate Lombard both scored twice.

Dartmouth outshot the Lions, 36-14, as freshman goaltender Chelsea Kirk (Hunt Valley, Md.) earned her first collegiate start. She made six saves.

Dartmouth is back at home on Saturday, March 31, hosting Brown at 1:00 p.m.
