13th-ranked Colby Falls 16-13 to 11th-ranked Williams

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Despite four goals and two assists from junior Lauren Barrett, the 13th-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team fell 16-13 to 11th-ranked Williams College on Monday morning at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Mules fall to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. First-year midfielder Kathleen Kramer added three goals for the Mules, who finish their Florida trip by playing against Union College on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Colby led 4-1 midway through the first half, but Williams (2-0) fought back and took a 9-7 lead at halftime. The Mules went ahead again at 13-12 with just under 12 minutes remaining only to see the Ephs score the final four goals.

Allie Libby added two goals and one assist, while Becky Julian finished with one goal and two assists for Colby. Courtney Drake, Lauren Strazzula and Heather Nickerson also tallied.

ORLANDO, FL - Chris Mason's Ephs improved to 2-0 on the year and collected their second straight NESCAC win by scoring six of the final eight goals of the game to defeat Colby 16-13 in a game played at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The loss drops Colby to 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in NESCAC play.

Sophomore midfielder Britt Spackman scored six goals and assisted on one and junior attack Sarah Adkins dished out eight assists in leading the Ephs to the win. The Ephs, currently ranked 11th nationally, downed the Mules by scoring in spurts on the day. Trialing 4-1 with just 15 minutes left in the first half the Eph offense strung together six straight goals to take a 7-4 lead and held a 9-7 advantage at the half.

"The team really played with a lot of heart today," said Mason. "We did not have a feel for each other in the beginning, but then we started getting the draw controls and seeing the open passing lanes."

Colby, ranked 13th nationally rallied and took an 11-10 lead in the contest with 19:18 remaining. The Ephs, however, answered the Mules' surge with three straight tallies. At 14:19 Spackman tied the score at 11 all off a feed from Sarah Adkins. The goal was setup by a long run by defender Lauren Kennedy who found Adkins.

The go-ahead goal came from Whitney Thayer when she converted off a feed from Spackman at 13:39. Spackman and Adkins then teamed up on a textbook tally at 12:44 to put the Ephs up 13-11. From behind the net Adkins hit a cutting Spackman who one-timed the ball past the Colby goalie.

When Colby scored at 11:53 to make it a 13-12 game, the Ephs fired off three more goals in a row to take a 16-12 lead. At 9:56 Meighan McGowan scored an unassisted goal and that was followed at 4:56 by a Tildsley goal (assist Adkins) and then Elizabeth Pierce closed out the Ephs scoring at 2:13 when she scored off a pass from Antonia Clark.

Colby netted the game's final score at 1:35.

"Kaylan Tildsley, Meighan McGowan and Britt Spackman worked so hard the entire game, they were the key," said Mason. Senior Abby Taylor played in goal for the Ephs and she made six saves to record her second win of the season. "Abby struggled early, but had some important saves at the end," noted Mason.

Next up for the Ephs is another contest in the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday morning against Union at 9:00 a.m.
