15th-Ranked Pioneers Cruise by Harvard, 20-7
DENVER – Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) shattered DU's single-game records with 13 points and seven assists, as the Pioneers ran away with a 20-7 victory over Harvard on Tuesday at Barton Stadium.
Denver (9-1) started the game on a 6-0 run with Leggio scoring three of those goals, and sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) assisting on the first four.
Harvard (2-6) got on the board with 10 minutes remaining in the half, but DU scored six more in the half and opened the second half on a 7-2 run. The Crimson outscored the Pioneers 4-1 over the final 11:29, but the game was already out of reach.
Leggio, who was named MPSF Player of the Week earlier in the day, scored six goals in the contest. Her seven assists and 13 points both tie for eighth all-time in the NCAA record books.
Coyne added a fifth assist with just under five minutes in the first half, which tied Leggio for the Denver record in a game before Leggio broke it again.
Sophomore Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) added four goals and three assists, while junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) had a hat trick.
Junior Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) had nine saves and allowed only three goals in 43 minutes in the cage before giving way to freshman Katie Gold (Centennial, Colo.).
Freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) and sophomore Jordan Elway (Englewood, Colo.) chipped in two goals each.
The Pioneers play a pair of games on the road this weekend. DU will face Duquesne on Friday at 1:30 p.m. MT, and No. 13 Johns Hopkins on Sunday at 10 a.m. MT.
