St. Bonaventure Defeats Canisius, 18-6
An 11-goal first half gave St. Bonaventure a big lead as the Bonnies defeated the Canisius College women's lacrosse team 18-6 Tuesday night at the Demske Sports Complex.
Six different players scored for the Griffs (3-5) while Lauren Walsh (Auburn, N.Y.) was the only Canisius player to record multiple points as the junior had two helpers in the game.
Katelyn Faas had a game-high eight points and six goals while Brenna Houghton and Kimberly Ross each had four goals for the Bonnies (2-4).
St. Bonaventure scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game before Bobbi Jo Harris (Beaverton, Ont.) got the Griffs on the board at the 22:57 mark of the first half. The Bonnies then scored the next nine goals of the half to put the game out of reach.
Rasheeda Brenton (Clarence, N.Y.) made 10 saves for the Griffs while Eboni Preston earned the win for the Bonnies.
"We need to learn to play for 60 minutes," Canisius coach Scott Teeter said. "We can't spot a team a big lead and expect to be able to come back and win the game."
Canisius opens its MAAC schedule by hosting Le Moyne March 30, at 7 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
Game Notes: Whitney Card (Alton, Ont.) returned to the lineup after missing the previous three contests… Marissa Brown (Syracuse, N.Y.) extended her goal streak to six games… Brown, Card and Ashley Gray (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) are the only Canisius players to score in each game they have played in this season… St. Bonaventure has won five of the six meetings between the teams.
