First Half Defict Proves too Much for Boxers

IRVING, Texas – A 3-1 halftime deficit proved too much for Pacific to make up in a low-scoring match-up Tuesday as the Boxers lost 7-4 to the University of Dallas in women's lacrosse at the University of Dallas.

The Boxers (1-5) trailed 3-1 at intermission after being held to just six shots, then rode a two-goal second half effort by Alyse Hetzel (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) to mount a three-goal rally in the final 30 minutes.

Hetzel led the Boxers with three goals, bringing her team-leading season total to nine strikes. Mimi Takamune (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) finished with one goal.

Meghan Braun led Dallas (2-6) with three goals. Becky Harris, Erika Urban, Laura Jura and Liz Chadwick each finished with one goal. Dallas outshot Pacific 17-16 for the match, but the Boxers held a 5-4 edge in draw controls and drew 12 turnovers against the Crusaders, including four caused turnovers.

Chadwick opened scoring for the Crusaders with her lone goal at the 23:10 mark, but Hetzel responded with Pacific's first goal with 21 minutes left. Jura and Urban, however, closed out the period with their strikes at the 18:15 and 7:23 left, respectively, to give Dallas a 3-1 halftime lead.

Hetzel closed the gap to 3-2 six minutes into the second half, connecting on as unassisted goal. The two teams traded single goals over the next 12 minutes, with Takamune scoring with 14:30 remaining and Hetzel connecting again at the 10:37 mark. The Crusaders closed scoring with one last score with under a minute left when Braun connected on her third goal of the match.

Valerie Nelson (So., Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) registered three saves in the loss, while Dallas netminder Jennifer Kunhardt made eight saves.

Pacific will finish their three-game Texas road trip on Wednesday, facing Oberlin in a neutral site match-up.
