Bates 10, Gordon 8

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Molly Wagner scored four goals and first-year Molly Radis added three goals and two assists, including the game-winning score, as the Bates College women's lacrosse team posted a come-from-behind 10-8 non-league victory over Gordon College on Wednesday.

Gordon (3-2) took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by junior Amber Whalen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), increased the lead to 4-1 and held a 4-3 edge at halftime.

Bates (5-2) scored four unanswered goals -- by Wagner, first-year Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.), first-year Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) and Radis -- in the second half to turn a 5-4 deficit into an 8-5 lead with 13:49 to play.

The Fighting Scots answered with a 3-0 run of their own, with sophomore Danielle Zorn (Mercer Island, Wash.) scored her second and third goals and first-year Katie Knaus (Kensington, Conn.) adding her second goal, tying the game at 8 with 6:46 left to play.

A determined individual move resulted in an unassisted goal by Radis with 4:03 to play, and Radis assisted on junior Rachel Harmeling's insurance goal with 2:10 left in the game to finish the scoring.

Bates junior Katie Nickerson (Windham, N.H.) made five saves in goal, while Gordon sophomore Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y.) made 16 saves for the Fighting Scots, who were outshot by a 32-21 margin.

Bates cut down significantly on turnovers, from 18 in the first half to only six committed in the second half.

Bates plays at Williams on Saturday in a NESCAC matchup; Gordon faces Curry College on Saturday.
