Greensboro 19, Lees-McRae 8
Greensboro, N.C.—Senior Andrew Carey scored 5 goals and passed for one assist to lead Greensboro College (2-5) over Lees McRae College, 19-8, at Pride Field on Wednesday.
Greensboro's Brian Butterworth had 3 goals and 2 helpers. Neal McKinney scored and assisted twice and Gianni Gigante and Hap Collier both potted 2 goals. GC's 19 goals were its most in more than a year. The Pride bested Mount St. Vincent, 21-4, last March 13.
GC led 7-4 after a high scoring first period and was ahead 10-6 at halftime. The home club then outscored the Bobcats 7-0 in the third quarter. Greensboro tallied the first 2 scores of the final stanza and held its biggest lead, 19-6, with 7:58 remaining. LMC then scored 2 times in the last 2:03 for the final count.
The Pride led in shots (45-28) and ground balls (30-15). LMC, however, took 19-31 face-offs.
Tyler Stieber recorded 3 goals and Kyle Ficken had 2 goals and one assist for the NCAA Division II Bobcats (0-9). Adam Canoy had 15 saves for the visitors.
Pride goalkeeper Mike Foderaro had 6 saves and allowed 6 goal. Matt Lech played the fourth period and gave up 2 goals and stopped 3 shots.
