Strong Second Half Propels ‘Cats to Win Over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington College used a strong second half effort to down the host Knights of Arcadia University, 13-6 in women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon.

Wilmington jumped to a quick 2-0 lead and held on for the 6-3 advantage heading into halftime. After a goal by Arcadia to open the second half, the Wildcats ran off five straight goals and pulled away for the victory.

Sophomore Katelyn Gibas led the Wildcat attack, as she netted a hat trick and added an assist. Freshman Amanda Jenkins also added three goals, while junior Colby Bugda chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist. Classmate Amy Waggoner added two goals, while Amanda Beasley and Kelly Wojciechowski each had single tallies.

Arcadia was paced by Shannon Bustin's four goal, one assist performance. Melanie Mark and Jamie Stevenson each added goals to round the Knights' scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Catie Smith (3-1) picked up the win, as she recorded 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats. Michelle Leone took the loss, while making 12 saves for Arcadia.

With the win, the Wildcats improved their record to 3-3, stopping their three-game losing skid. Arcadia dropped to 0-4 on the season. Wilmington is slated to return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Chargers of Dominican College in a 12:00 PM game.
