Falatach Fuels MSM with Six Points in Win over Wagner

Staten Island, NY – Sophomores Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Whitemarsh) and Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NJ / Westhill) each scored three goals for the Seahawks earlier today in a 19-6 loss to Mount St. Mary’s in women’s lacrosse action at Wagner Stadium this afternoon. The outcome puts Wagner at 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast Conference as the Mount moved to 2-6 overall and 2-0 NEC.

As they have for the past three games, the Seahawks played a strong first half before giving way in the final 30 minutes. Blundin, who leads Wagner in scoring, put Wagner up 1-0 early with an unassisted tally five minutes into the game. Courtney Paris answered for Mount less than 30 second later, tying the game at 1-1 as she record her first of four goals on the day.

Katelyn Catanese, who also had four goals, gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage at the 21 minute mark when she scored on a free position shot. Gonzalez would follow Catanese up quickly and keep the Seahawks in the game scoring unassisted a mere 20 seconds later.

The back and forth first half continued as Jenna Duffy put Mount back on to 3-2 before Gonzalez stepped up again for the Seahawks and tied the game midway through the first half. Neither team would score for nearly nine minutes until Blundin finally ended the scoring drought on a free position score that gave Wagner a 4-3 lead. The Mount would then score three more times in the first half as they went into the locker room ahead 6-4. The offense continued for Mount St. Mary’s in the second half as they outscored the Seahawks by a count of 13-2 to decide the game.

Sophomore Lindsay Hashmall (Wantagh, NY / Wantagh) led Wagner with six ground balls while freshman goalie Alex Johnston (Manilus, NY / Fayetteville-Manilus) posted nine saves in 50 minutes of action. Senior Jessica Bajakowski (Fairfax, VA / Robinson) was also tough on defense with four ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Seahawks were outshot 37-21, but held a 15-11 in draw controls. The team continues NEC play on Sunday when they host LIU at 12:00 pm.
