No. 12 Western New England Tops Eastern Connecticut
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior attacker Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored two goals with two assists to lead No. 12 Western New England College to a 17-6 victory over visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in a non-league men's lacrosse game Friday night (Mar. 30). Cherry became the school's all-time leading scorer with 227 points, breaking the old mark of 224 set by PJ Wicker from 1996-98.
Junior midfielder Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) added three goals for the Golden Bears who remained unbeaten with a 6-0 record. Senior midfielder Brian Praetorius (Saugerties, NY), and junior midfielders Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) and Ben Reardon (Longmeadow, MA) each contributed two goals.
Western New England College broke a 1-1 tie with 13 unanswered goals to take a commanding 14-1 advantage following Hayes' final score with 8:04 remaining in the third quarter.
Senior attacker Dave Carpenter (Redding, CT) led the Warriors (2-5) with two goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder D.J. Simmons (Mystic, CT) chipped in with a goal and assist.
