Ohio State Defeats Virginia Tech, 13-10

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (5-2, 0-1 American Lacrosse Conference) women's lacrosse team, behind five goals and four assists from Kristen Slahor (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), won 13-10, over Virginia Tech (4-9) Friday evening in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Jessica Patane (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.) added three goals with two each from Kelly Haggerty (Fr., West Chester, Pa.) and Amanda Shimp (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) for the Buckeyes. Virginia Tech's Rachel Culp scored three goals in the game with Lindsay Pieper, Britt Faulkner and Christen Fratter each scoring twice.

Ohio State opened the scoring with an eight-meter goal from Shimp at 29:08. The Hokies tied the game at one with a Rachel Culp goal at 25:10. OSU's Patane made it 2-1 with a goal at 24:23. Lindsay Pieper tied the game at two at 23:49 on an assist from Kady McBrearty. Patane scored with an assist from Slahor at 22:30 to take a 3-2 lead. A Haggerty goal, assisted by Slahor, at 18:00 gave the Buckeyes a two-goal lead. A Britt Faulkner goal at 17:06 cut the lead to one. At 13:48, Slahor scored with an assist from Natale Miller (Sr., West Chester, Pa.) to make it 5-3. A goal by Culp at 12:30 cut the lead to one again. Shimp scored her second goal at 6:24 with a Patane assist to make the two. A Faulkner goal, assisted by Pieper, at 4:14 made it 6-5. Patane's third goal, at 2:24, assisted by Slahor made it 7-5. Virginia Tech cut the lead to one with Culp's third goal at 1:21, assisted by McBrearty. The Hokies tied the game at seven at 0:59 with a Fratter goal, assisted by McBrearty. The Buckeye regained the lead at 8-7 with Slahor's second goal of the game with three second left in the half.

Slahor opened the second half with a goal at 28:13, assisted by Keri Yourick (So., Castle Rock, Colo.) to take a two-goal lead at 9-7. A Haggerty goal at 26:34, assisted by Slahor, took the lead to three at 10-7. The Hokies cut the lead to two at 25:18 with a Fratter goal, assisted by McBrearty. Slahor added her fourth goal of the game at 17:07 to make it 11-8. McBrearty scored at 9:22 to cut the lead to two. Slahor, with her fifth goal of the game, gave the Buckeyes a 12-9 lead at 5:25. A Miller goal at 4:17 made it 13-9. Pieper cut the lead to three (13-10) at 1:45 with McBrearty's fifth assist to end the scoring for the half.

In goal, Kristen Gilwee (So., Hunt Valley, Md.) started and played the first half, collecting the win with three saves while giving up seven goals. Joy DeMarco (Sr., Hudson, Ohio) played the second half for the Buckeyes, giving up three goals. Virginia Tech's Kari Morrison played the entire game for the Hokies, giving up 13 goals and making seven saves.

Ohio State completes the two-game home stand Sunday at Noon when they host California (5-2).
