Hawks Drop 7-4 Decision at St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Hartwick men's lacrosse team dropped their first Empire 8 contest of the season, falling to St. John Fisher 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at Pittsford. Senior midfielder Pat McCormack (Camillus, N.Y.) recorded three goals in the outing for the Hawks. Hartwick falls to 5-3 overall, 2-1 in the conference, and St. John Fisher improves to 5-2, 2-1.

The Cardinals struck first, scoring a goal on a man-up situation with 9:05 to play in the first. The Hawks got the equalizer at the 4:36 mark on a McCormack goal from Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.). St. John Fisher would have a four-goal second quarter that Hartwick was unable to recover from, including a pair of man-up goals from Scott Bowen.

Matt Shellard (Latham, N.Y.) scored the Hawks' other goal on a feed from Dan Hushion (Farmingdale, N.Y.).

Jason Fautas (Holtsville, N.Y.) took the loss for Hartwick in net, playing the first 30 minutes, allowing five goals and making four saves. John Meade started the second half for the Hawks in goal, allowing two goals and stopping 10 shots.

Hartwick will return to action on Wednesday at Elmira College in an Empire 8 contest.
