Colorado College Downs Denison, 11-8, at Heron Draw
GENEVA, N.Y.—The Colorado College women's lacrosse team defeated Denison University in game two of the Heron Draw this afternoon on McCooey Field. The Tigers improved to 4-3 overall, while the Big Red slipped to 2-4 on the season.
Senior attacker Kate Fitzgerald (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.) led Colorado with three goals, while sophomore attacker Mallory Newton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) netted two, and junior midfielder Robin Harvey (Winchester/Winchester, Mass.) added a goal and an assist.
The Big Red offense was led by senior midfielder Krissy Frost (Wilton/Wilton, Conn.) and junior midfielder Meg Wilcox (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.), who each tallied three goals.
After trading early goals, the Tigers took control of the first half, out scoring Denison 8-2. The Big Red regrouped during the break, coming back to score six goals to the Tigers' three in the second period, but it was not enough.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jess Van Doren (Boise/Boise, Idaho) picked up 11 saves for Colorado, while senior Carolyn Hicks (Hawken School/Gates Mills, Ohio) collected 13 for Denison.
The Tigers will take on No. 13 Cortland tomorrow at 11 a.m., while Denison will meet the host, 15th-ranked William Smith, at 2:00 p.m.
