Eastern Connecticut Routs Southern Maine, 19-1
GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Jenna Faiola (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Lily Anderson (Portland, Maine) combined for nine goals and four assists to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 19-1 rout of the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon at Hodgdon Field. The game was the Little East Conference opener for both sides.
The win was the third straight for the Warriors, and raised their overall record to 4-3. Southern Maine slips to 1-3 overall.
Faiola led the EC scoring parade with five goals and two assists. Anderson added four goals and two assists. Each player had three goals in the first half as the Warriors raced out to a 13-0 lead.
Other multiple goal scorers for EC included senior Kara Bradley (North Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) with two goals apiece. Freshman Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) had one goal and a team-high four assists.
Freshman Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine) scored the lone goal for Southern Maine to open the second half.
Senior goalie Erin Calkins (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was credited with 10 saves for Eastern Connecticut. Junior Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had 20 saves for Southern Maine. Eastern Connecticut out shot Southern Maine 54-15.
Southern Maine returns to action Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) when it hosts Castleton State College in a non-conference game. Eastern Connecticut hosts in-state rival Western Connecticut in its next game on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.
