Mangin Leads Ursinus to 7-5 Victory over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Dane Mangin was part of five of Ursinus' seven goals, netting three goals to go with two assists, in a 7-5 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Bill Warner (Yardley, PA/LaSalle) led the Green Terror (4-3, 0-2 CC) with a pair of goals. Mike Tori added two goals for the Bears (6-2, 3-1 CC), who won their third straight game in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 on the first Warner goal about four minutes into the game, Anthony Tori found Tom Walsh in the middle to knot the game at 1-all and spark a 3-0 flurry over the last 9:26 of the opening quarter. Mangin tallied both of the next two goals, including one 11 seconds after Walsh's marker.
A Warner tally at the 12:11 mark of the second quarter pulled the hosts within 3-2. However, two minutes later, Mangin found the back of the net to complete his hat trick off a Mike Tori feed from across the cage. A Tori man-up goal sandwiched two McDaniel solo markers to make it a 5-4 game at the break.
A Mangin feed to M. Tori was the only tally in the third quarter, coming at the 4:42 mark. Mangin capped his scoring, feeding A. Tori on a quick shot to find the back of the net just over five minutes into the fourth period. With just nine seconds left, Matt Buschman (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) set the final margin, finishing the second of two Chris Edmonds (Laurel, MD/Pallotti) assists.
Matt Orlando recorded 17 saves for the Bears, while Benjamin Yingling (Westminster, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had 11 at the other end. The Green Terror returns to action at home against Hood on Wednesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
