Shenandoah Nips N.C. Wesleyan in Overtime, 13-12
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University won its second USA South Conference women's lacrosse game of the 2007 season Saturday afternoon with a 13-12 overtime victory over host N.C. Wesleyan.
With the game tied at 11-11 heading into the six-minute OT, seniors Courtney Beard and Kelly Matagiese both scored in the first three-minute session to give SU (4-7, 2-3 USA South) a two-goal advantage.
NC Wesleyan (3-10, 1-4) answered with a goal of its own in the second three-minute OT period, causing the Hornets to go into a stall.
The Lady Bishops stole the ball and had an 8-meter shot to force a sudden-victory overtime period, but SU keeper Wendy Taylor stopped both the 8-meter shot and an ensuing attempt to preserve the victory.
Shenandoah completes conference play on Monday afternoon at 4:00 with a home game against Methodist University.
