No. 7 Georgetown Falls, 14-10, to No. 3 Maryland

Washington, D.C. - The No. 7 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team fell 14-10 to No. 3 Maryland on Tuesday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Field. It is the first time the Hoyas have lost consecutive games under third-year head coach Ricky Fried. Georgetown drops to 6-4 on the year while the Terps improve to 10-1.

Maryland jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the first 23 minutes with junior attacker Casey Magor scoring all three of her goals during the stretch. The Terrapins had a 9-4 lead at intermssion, the first time all season the Hoyas trailed at the break.

GU senior Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) paced the Hoyas with four goals and an assist while classmate Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and junior Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) each had two goals. Senior goalie Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) made a game-high nine saves. Sophomore Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) collected two ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers.

Georgetown trailed 8-4 inside of the final minute of the first half but the the Terrapins snatched the momentum heading into the locker rooms. After a Georgetown turnover, Maryland's Becky Clipp raced down the field and located a cutting Krista Pellizzi. Pellizzi scored with 7.5 seconds to go in the half.

Georgetown couldn't make a dent in the Terps' lead as the teams alternated scores for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Piotrowicz scored on a free position attempt with 7:48 remaining but the Hoyas managed five shots the rest of the way with Maryland Allie Buote making two saves.

The Hoyas return to the field on Saturday, April 7 when Georgetown tangles with Loyola (Md.) in a BIG EAST game that starts at 1:00 p.m. in Baltimore.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Lauren Cohen recorded five points on four goals and an assist as the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team defeated No. 7 Georgetown, 14-10, at the Multi-Sport Field on April 3. Classmate Kelly Kasper had a pair of goals and assists while senior Krista Pellizzi added a goal and three assists.

Junior Casey Magor added a hat trick while junior Katie Princiotto had a goal and two assists. Junior Allie Buote recorded seven saves in the win.

The teams traded a pair of goals as it was tied 2-2 at the 20:25 mark to start the game. Kasper opened the scoring when she converted a free position chance after senior Becky Clipp forced a turnover. Cohen scored the other Maryland goal with the assist coming from classmate Katie Princiotto.

The Terps then opened up the game with five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead with just over seven minutes left in the half. Magor scored the first and the last goal of the run and tallied one in between to record a hat trick with 7:12 to go in the opening frame.

The streak started when junior Dana Dobbie caused a turnover on the defensive end that led to a Magor goal at the 13:00 mark. Senior Katie Doolittle then used a Kasper pass to score to make it 4-2. Pellizzi then found Magor in the middle of the zone who bounced a shot past the Hoyas' goalie. After Pellizzi won the ensuing draw, Cohen drove down the left side and beat the defense to make it 6-2 with 9:55 to go. Magor capped the run with a fast break goal after senior Jen Greenberg caused a turnover on the other end of the field.

Georgetown used a pair of miscues by the Terps to score two more before the end of the half, but Maryland also posted two more goals to take the 9-4 lead into the half. Bunny O'Reilly found an open Coco Stanwick for a score after Maryland threw the ball away with 4:41 to go. After Cohen found Pellizzi for another goal, Zan Morley drove down the middle after a Maryland defender slipped and scored uncontested with just under three minutes to go.
