No. 13 Cortland Hammers Hartwick, 17-5

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Ali Bourgal (Sachem) scored four goals and senior Gina Fazio (Brownville/General Brown) recorded a career-high six assists to lead the nationally 13th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 17-5 victory versus Hartwick Tuesday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 5-3, while the Hawks fell to 1-5.

Senior Andrea Venditti (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored three goals and collected two assists, junior Elizabeth Acee (Syracuse/Henninger) contributed three goals and an assist and freshman Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) added three goals for the Red Dragons. Senior Jennifer Willis (Huntington/Walt Whitman) registered a goal and two assists, while freshman Jamie Rizzo (Sachem/Sachem East) tallied her first career goal for Cortland. Senior Michelle Zimmer (Skaneateles) started in goal, making three saves and allowing three goals in the first half before giving way to freshman Deanne Abell (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley), who stopped five shots and gave up two goals in the second half.

For Hartwick, senior Jenev Schilling (Vineyard Haven, MA) led the offense with two goals and two assists. Junior Kelsey Campbell (Camillus) scored two goals, junior Jamie Boulton (Camillus) added a score and senior Julie Duffy (Westhampton, MA) collected an assist. Senior Jessica DiBrita (Rockville Centre) started in goal and made three saves in 21:36. Junior Emily Follit (East Longmeadow, MA) stopped six shots over the final 38:24 for the Hawks.

The teams were tied 2-2 just over 10 minutes into the game when the Red Dragons pulled away by scoring eight of the last nine goals of the opening half for a 10-3 lead. Bourgal and Acee each collected three goals in the first half, while Campbell netted both of her scores for Hartwick. Willis and Venditti made it 12-3 early in the second half before Schilling scored with 22:59 remaining. Cortland then scored the next five goals, each by a different player, and Boulton finished the scoring for the Hawks with her goal in the closing minutes.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The No. 13 ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team defeated Hartwick 17-5 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Cortland. Ali Bourgal scored four goals for the winning Red Dragons, while Jenev Schilling (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) recorded two goals and two assists for the Hawks. Hartwick's record falls to 1-5 on the season, while Cortland improves to 5-3.

The Red Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Hawks fought back to knot the score at 2-2 after getting goals from Schilling and Kelsey Campbell (Camillus, N.Y.). Cortland then went on a seven-goal tear over the next 10 minutes and Hartwick could not recover, as the Red Dragon's would carry their offense into the second half, outscoring the Hawks 7-2 over the final 30 minutes of play.

Jamie Boulton (Camillus, N.Y.) notched the final Hartwick goal. Jessica DiBrita (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Emily Follit (East Longmeadow, Mass.) split duties in net for the Hawks. DiBrita allowed nine goals and made three saves, while Follit allowed eight goals, stopping six shots.

Hartwick will return to action on Friday, when they host Empire 8 opponent St. John Fisher at 4:00 p.m.
