Catamounts Fall to No. 16 Dartmouth, 19-8
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Jen Pittman scored five goals and Whitney Douthett added seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) to lead #16 Dartmouth past Vermont, 19-8, at Moulton Winder Field on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
"I thought we played well in moments today," said Vermont head coach Jen Johnson. "Defensively we struggled against their potent attack. The biggest difference in the game was Dartmouth's ability to capitalize on our mistakes. Although we lost the game we will learn from this experience and it will help our young team in the upcoming America East contests."
Dartmouth took a 4-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. The Catamounts got on the scoreboard with a goal from Kelly Coppola (Scotia, N.Y.) at the 20:48 mark. The Big Green went on to outscore the Catamounts 5-2 the rest of the half and took a 9-3 lead into the break.
In the second half Dartmouth opened up the game with seven goals over the final 13 minutes, including a pair by Whitney Douthett, to post the team's sixth victory of the year.
Margo Duke and Katherine Chiusano added three goals each, while teammate Sarah Szefi contributed five points on two goals and three helpers. Chelsea Kirk picked up the win in the net for Dartmouth and combined with Juile Wadland and Ashely Heist to make five saves in the Big Green net.
Sophomore Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) and Tori Wasson (Lake Forest, Ill.) led the Catamounts with two goals each. Meaghan Hanley (Fort Pierce, Fla.) and Ali Trainor (Severn, Md.) each played 30 minutes in the Vermont net and combined for six saves.
Vermont falls to 3-8 overall, while Dartmouth improves to 6-3 on the season. The Catamounts return to action on Saturday (April 7) when they travel to LeMoyne for a 1:00 pm in Syracuse, N.Y.
