Wuenschel Sisters Lead McDaniel to Win at Villa Julie

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Kerrie and Connie Wuenschel (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) combined for six goals to lead McDaniel to a 15-9 victory at Villa Julie in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday. Both of the sisters scored three goals apiece for the Green Terror (7-2), who outshot the Mustangs (4-8) by a 36-24 margin in the game, including 21-12 in the decisive second half. Meghan Smith led Villa Julie with three goals and an assist.

Trailing 4-3 after three straight Mustang goals, the Wuenschels went back-to-back with junior Kerrie scoring with 12:02 to play in the opening half and senior Connie following nearly five minutes later. Kristyne Hnizda knotted the game for the final time at 5-all with 6:08 to play until the break before Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) tallied off a Shaena Smith (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) assist 1 minute, 21 seconds later to give McDaniel the lead for good.

The elder Wuenschel stretched the lead to 7-5 nearly six minutes into the second half before Cat Connelly trimmed the deficit to a single goal once again. Hopkins started a four-goal flurry over a 12-minute, 5-second span that put the Green Terror in command with 7:43 to play.

Smith snapped the burst with an unassisted marker at the 5:25 mark to close the gap to 12-7 but Emily Funk (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) scored twice in a 33-second span and Michelle Mullen (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) added a goal with 1:10 to play to push the lead to 14-7. Smith scored twice in the final 44 seconds for Villa Julie sandwiched around a McDaniel unassisted goal by Smith.
