Wildcats Upend Georgian Court, 10-9

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington College upended the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 10-9, in their last home game of the 2007 season. The win improves the Wildcats to 5-3 overall, while the loss drops Georgian Court to 4-4.

Georgian Court jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, as they found the back of the net just over a minute and a half into the game. Wilmington responded with a 3-1 run to send them into the half holding the 4-3 lead.

The Lions opened the second half scoring two straight goals, to take the 5-4 lead. The scoring then went back-and-forth until the Wildcats ran off a string of three unanswered goals to go ahead 9-8. Georgian Court tied the game at nine with 2:47 left to go, but sophomore Katelyn Gibas netted the game winner with just over a minute and a half left in the game, and the Wildcats held on for the one-goal victory.

Wilmington was led by freshman Amanda Jenkins, who netted a hat trick. Gibas added two goals, while junior Colby Bugda had a pair of goals and an assist. Sophomore Kelly Wojciechowski and junior Amy Waggoner each had a goal and an assist, while freshman Kellee Byrnes rounded out the scoring with a single tally.

Georgian Court was paced by three goals and two assists from Kara Sanford. Erica Gusk and Natalie Bermudez each added a pair of goals, while Brittany King and Christine Flaherty each tallied single goals.

Wilmington goalkeeper Catie Smith (5-1) picked up the win as she recorded 10 saves for the Wildcats. Georgian Court's Chrisine Latteri notched 15 saves for the Lions.

The Wildcats return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College to take on the Spartans in a 3:00 PM game.
