#5 Le Moyne Dominates #1 Dowling, 17-4
Syracuse, NY - It was a rematch of the 2006 National Championship game as the #1 Golden Lions face-off against the #5 Le Moyne Dolphins on April 4. Although the weather was vastly different, the outcome was not, as Dowling fell 4-17. Dowling drops to 4-2 on the season while Le Moyne improves to 4-3.
As the rain picked up throughout the first quarter so did the intensity. Each team battled to break through the opposing defense and make their mark. With just under three minutes on the clock Matt Cassalia fired a bullet to the top left corner but Nick Tracey (Farmingville, NY) was there for the save. However, with three ones on the clock Tom Donahue was able to break open the scoreless tie and send one to the back of the net. The Dolphins would add one more before the buzzer as Andrew Carducci made his way around the crease for a 2-0 Le Moyne advantage.
Nick Gatto opened the second with a solo tally but again the bulk of quarter would remain scoreless. A Dolphin penalty at the 4:00 minute mark would prove to me the scoring opportunity Dowling needed. Nick Cotter (Whitby , Ontario) ripped a shot at Jared Corcoran but CJ Leary (Bay Shore, NY) was there to shovel in the rebound goal. Yet the Dolphins pushed harder and netted two more tallies before the end of the half.
The Golden Lions were the first to strike in the second half but it was the Dolphins that would push take command of the game. They would go on a 10 goal spree led by Mike McDonald who netted three goals and dished two assists to blow open the game to 15-2. Dowling netted back to back goals in fourth quarter play as Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) sent one to the back of the net and John McClure (Brampton, Ontario) converted a feed from Leary. But Le Moyne would follow with two more goals for a 17-4 finish.
Tracey finished with 8 saves on the day, while Kyle Rubisch led the team with five caused turnovers. Dowling travels to Erie, PA to take on Mercyhurst College on April 7 at 1:00 PM.
