Hartwick Tops Elmira, 13-5
ELMIRA, N.Y. – Pat McCormack (Camillus, N.Y.) led the Hartwick men's lacrosse team with his fourth three-goal game of the season, as the Hawks defeated Empire 8 foe Elmira College 13-5 at Elmira on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 6-3 (3-1), while the Soaring Eagles fall to 3-5 (0-3).
Elmira got on the board first courtesy of a Dan Frost goal at the 12:39 mark in the first quarter, but Hartwick would respond with three unanswered goals to close out the opening 15 minutes and would post an additional three in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the half.
The offense continued to produce for the Hawks in the second half as they outscored the Golden Eagles 7-4 and secured their sixth win of the season. Jason Fautas (Holtsville, N.Y.) got the win in goal for Hartwick, playing the first 30 minutes. He allowed one goal and made five saves. John Meade (Ocean Beach, N.Y.) closed out the game, allowing four goals while stopping nine shots.
McCormack's three tallies give him a team-high 22 on the season. He also had two assists in the win. Lee Austin (Duxbury, Mass.) scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season and added two assists, while Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) also chipped in two scores and three helpers to give him a team-high 14 assists. Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J.) scored twice and Dan Hushion (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Tyler Beeson (Downingtown, Pa.), Jason Boltus (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), and Mike Robustello (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each added goals for Hartwick.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, April 7th when they host Empire 8 opponent Nazareth College. Nazareth is currently ranked ninth in the latest USILA poll.
