No. 6 Lynchburg Cruises by Guilford in ODAC Play

Greensboro, N.C. -- Sophomore attackman Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scored six goals in visiting Lynchburg College's 18-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse win over Guilford College Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets, ranked sixth in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association NCAA Division III Poll, improve to 8-1 overall, 2-1 in the ODAC. The Quakers drop to 2-6 (0-3 ODAC) with their second straight setback.

Lynchburg tallied the game's first 11 goals and controlled play throughout the contest. Tolson, who now has 43 goals this year, scored four times in the Hornets' game-opening burst and netted Lynchburg's first two goals of the third quarter. Junior Ryan Cranston (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored twice and was Lynchburg's only other multi-goal scorer as 12 Hornets dent the twice in their highest-scoring game this year. Junior attackman Stephen Weis (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) set up three Tolson tallies, scored one himself and finished with four points. Lynchburg enjoyed a 53-27 advantage in shots. Starting goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, Mass./Tabor Academy) played 38 minutes between the pipes and made five of the 10 stops recorded by four Lynchburg netminders.

Guilford junior Colin Davis (Brewster, Mass./St. Mark's) scored two second-quarter goals to make it an 11-2 game at halftime. Sophomore midfielder Matt Meriwether (Charlottesville, VA/Tandem Friends) assisted Davis's first goal and scored twice in the fourth quarter for a team-best three points . Senior goalie Andrew Bond (Littleton, Colo./J.K. Mullen) relieved starter Andrew Vigne (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) in the second quarter and made nine saves in nearly 32 minutes. Vigne made six stops. Sophomore Dan Simpson (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield) won 14-of-24 face-offs for the Quakers.

The Quakers host Virginia Wesleyan Saturday (4/7) at noon in the Armfield Athletic Center. Lynchburg hosts top-ranked Salisbury Saturday at 1:00 on Shellenberger Field.
