Elizabethtown Team Sets Record for Wins
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In early April, Elizabethtown College has already set a new program record for most wins in a season. The Blue Jays won their record seventh game of 2007 on the road at Susquehanna University Wednesday night to improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Susquehanna dropped to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the MAC with the loss.
Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) led Elizabethtown in scoring with 10 goals, the most ever by a Blue Jay player in a single game. She also assisted two more goals. Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) scored six goals and had one assist for Etown, and Sarah Gilson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) scored one goal and had three assists. Carly Goetting (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Borough) added one goal for the Blue Jays. Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) also had three assists for Etown, and Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) had two assists.
Foley and Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) tied for the team lead in draw controls with three, and Foley, Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) and Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with three each. Etown goalie Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made eight saves and had three ground balls in 57:08, and Becca Watkins (Herndon, VA/Westfield) made two saves in the final 2:52 in the Etown net.
Mary Minui was Susquehanna's leading scorer with three goals, and Christine Ottey had a team-best total of three caused turnovers. Rachel Devilbiss had seven draw controls and a goal for Susquehanna, and Jessica Wilson scored once and led all players in the game in ground balls with six.
Elizabethtown will return to action at home Tuesday, April 10 against undefeated MAC rival Lycoming College in a 4:00 p.m. game.
