Drew Defeats FDU-Madison, 10-5

Drew women's lacrosse completed a 4-0 day for Rangers athletics with a 10-5 win over FDU at Ranger Stadium. Alex Weber Reitz scored twice for Drew including the eventual game-winner just minutes into the second half as a superb team defensive effort shut down the Devils. The Ranger women joined the men's lacrosse team in defeating FDU, 10-5, the baseball team, which beat Scranton 21-4, and men's tennis, 9-0 winners at DeSales for the perfect (if cold) day.

Alex Weber Reitz got Drew on the board with an unassisted tally at the 23:19 mark. Lindsey Perno added another by creating an Eight Meter Shot with 18:03 and finishing hard and low for the goal.

FDU tied it up through Lindsey Specht and Laura Gambardello by the 9:43 mark. Allie Bailly and Lindsey Perno worked a nice goal to get the former her first strike of the game at 8:49, but Amanda Wayne tied it again for the Devils with five minutes left.

Drew got a slight upper hand in the final minute of play as Morgan Kenney scored a nice unassisted goal with 58 seconds left in the half. After Courtney Cunningham won the draw control and sprinted into the FDU third, she found Samantha Silver open and the first-year found the back of the net with a perfectly placed shot to give Drew a 5-3 lead.

Alex Weber Reitz got Drew on the board in the second half as well as the first, once again out-running her defender to score unassisted. A well worked goal from Cunningham to Bailly gave Drew a 7-3 lead with 25 minutes left in the game. Stef Rutkowski made a big save to prevent a Devil retaliation one minute later, denying Wayne. At the 19:00 minute mark, Christine Dunn made a great save against an Allie Bailly shot to keep it a four goal lead. Specht made Dunn's save count by scoring FDU's first of the half a minute later.

The Cunningham-Bailly connection scored Drew's eighth as Bailly converted Coutney's pass. Bailly hit the post with 12 minutes left as Drew continued to apply pressure on the Devil net. Bailly did get her third of the half on a free position goal for a 9-4 lead. Lindsey Specht countered with a great individual effort for her second of the contest.

Gabbie Haenn made a great defensive play around four minutes to stop a FDU attack; Morgan Kenney put the nail in the coffin on the ensuing possession as the Rangers scored their 10th of the match. Christina Lanzilotta was next with a big defensive play as she picked off a pass in the last 90 seceonds to set Drew up with a long time-wasting possession.

The win capped off a nice 4-0 day for Drew athletics and a lacrosse sweep of FDU. It also improved the Rangers' record to 7-2, 4-1 in the MAC. Drew gets back into action on Saturday against Rowan.
