Potsdam Falls to RPI, 16-6

(Potsdam, NY) The SUNY Potsdam Laxmen suffered their first home loss of the season as they fell 15-6 to Rensselaer on Saturday. The Bears now go to 3-4 overall while the Red Hawks remain undefeated at 9-0.

The Red Hawks took an early lead as they prevailed 3-1 at the end of the first period. Potsdam had a much stronger second period as they tallied 3 goals to RPI's 4. Rensselaer dominated the third period 4-0 before outscoring Potsdam 4-2 in the fourth.

Matt Vaverchak (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) topped the stats for Potsdam with 3 points from 1 goal and 2 assists. Corey Reinhart (Albany/Colonie) and George Nolan (Marcellus/Marcellus) followed with 2 goals and 2 assists respectively.

Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) led RPI with 4 goals and 1 assist followed by Josh Secora (Evergreen, CO/Golden) with 2 goals and 2 assists. PJ McComb (Newington, CT/ Newington) finished with 3 goals while Paul Cerone (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) finished with 3 assists.

Goalkeeper Brian Hondorf (Webster-Schroeder/MCC) had 12 saves in the loss for Potsdam. John Thibdeau (Altamon, NY/Bethlehem) was the Red Hawks first-half goalkeeper when he had 2 saves for the win. He was relieved by Ryan Michels (Wilmington,DE/Brandywine) who tallied 3 saves in the second half.

Potsdam returns to action at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday as they begin SUNYAC competition at Oneonta.
