Smith, Yanofsky Lead No. 9 Trinity Past No. 7 Bowdoin
Hartford, Conn. – Junior attacker C.J. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.) had two goals and two assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 8-6 victory over the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, improves to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in NESCAC play while Bowdoin, ranked No. 7 nationally, falls to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Trinity scored first, as senior midfielder Abigale Arnold (Hanover, N.H.) scored from Yanofsky notched a goal 3:40 into the game. Each team scored once more before Bowdoin went ahead, 4-2, with 15:36 on the clock with three unanswered goals. Trinity fired back with three straight scores of their own to gain a 5-4 lead at the break and held the lead for the rest of the contest .
Yanofsky gave Trinity a two-goal lead 1:59 into the second half, but senior tri-captain midfielder Taylor White (Wellesley, Mass.) answered at the 24:23 mark to make the score, 7-5. The teams scored once apiece over the next 18 minutes until Bantam senior co-captain Lauren Malinowski (Longmeadow, Mass.) gave the Bantams another two-goal cushion with just over six minutes left on the clock.
Junior goalkeeper Michelle Smith (Wayland, Mass.) made eight of her 14 saves after intermission and held the Polar Bears to just two goals over the last 44:24 of the game. Bowdoin goalie Stephanie Collins-Finn (Menands, N.Y.) finished with 13 total saves. Malinowski and sophomore midfielder Carrie Disa (Wilbraham, Mass.) each scored twice for the Bantams. White and junior midfielder Lyndsey Colburn (Concord, N.H.) each notched a pair of goals for Bowdoin.
