Cortland Cruises with 21-3 Win at Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Junior Billy Fuchs (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) scored five goals and recorded two assists and junior Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) recorded three goals and three assists as Cortland opened its SUNYAC schedule with a 21-3 victory at Plattsburgh.
Junior Adam Hyde (West Seneca/West Seneca East) added three goals and one assist for the Red Dragons (5-4, 1-0), who led 5-0 after the first quarter and 12-3 at halftime. Sophomore Michael Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) made nine saves over the first three quarters for the victory in goal. Senior Mo Lanzas (Vienna, VA/James Madison) played the final 15 minutes but did not face any shots on goal.
Freshman Kyle Norchi (Hauppauge) paced Plattsburgh (7-3, 0-1) with two goals and sophomore Jimmy Tenny (Brewster) scored once. Brian Csorny (St. James/Smithtown) started in goal and made three saves over 22:08. Billy Hughes (East Patchogue/Bellport) stopped seven shots and allowed eight goals over the next 26:03 and Michael Dell'Aera (Levittown/Levittown-Division) made two saves and gave up three goals over the final 11:49.
Eleven Red Dragons scored at least one goal in the contest. Junior Chris Hannon (Baldwin) and freshman Brian Krol (Niskayuna) finished with two goals apiece, while sophomore Conor Duffy (Vestal), freshman Chris Dutkowsky (Vestal), senior Mike Felice (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), senior Ryan Simensky (Locust Valley), freshman Kevin Keown (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) and sophomore Kevin Kliszczewicz (Liverpool) notched one goal each.
Cortland outshot the Cardinals, 49-22, and held a 55-40 edge in ground balls. The Red Dragons also limited Plattsburgh to just 13 successful clears in 26 attempts.
