#19 Roanoke Knocks off #13 Hampden-Sydney, 13-11

SALEM, VA -- The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team ran its winning streak to four games with a 13-11 win over #13 Hampden-Sydney on Saturday evening in Salem, VA. The Maroons improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Hampden-Sydney, which has lost five straight games to the Maroons, falls to 9-2 overall, 2-1 in the ODAC.

The Maroons jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter of play, but the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-6 lead early in the third quarter. Thomas Jennings dodged from behind the cage to score an unassisted goal with just over 12 minutes left in the third to even the score at six and less than a minute later Ryan Harrington scored from the top of the box to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.

The Maroons, however, scored the next five goals to take the lead for good. Steve Furdock scored on a Chaz Carlson pass with just under nine minutes left and Zach Thomas scored on an outside shot, finishing a Pat March pass, and Roanoke regained the lead for good with 5:58 left in the third.

Roanoke's lead would get out to s lead of as many as five goals in the fourth quarter, that at 13-8 on a Zach Thomas man-up goal on a Carlson assist. The Tigers scored the final three goals of the game, all in the last four minutes, to make the final 13-11.

Thomas finished the game with four goals and two assists to lead all scorers. Carlson scored three times and assisted on two goals for the Maroons, while Thomas Jennings had four points on three goals and an assist for the Tigers. Roanoke's Billy Cameron went 10-for-16 on face-offs, while sophomore Sam Love led all players in the game with seven groundballs. Hampden-Sydney's Scott Russell made 14 saves in the loss, including eight in the third quarter of play.

The Maroons are back in action next Saturday in a road ODAC game against the Quakers of Guilford College. Hampden-Sydney hosts Washington & Lee the same day.
