Colby Holds off No. 14 Tufts, 12-11

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) broke a 10-10 tie with a goal and Lauren Strazzula (Norwell, Mass.) added an insurance goal as the Colby College women's lacrosse team took a 12-11 victory over Tufts University on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field. The Mules are 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Tufts falls to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in NESCAC play.

Tufts scored three straight goals in a span of 3:26 to tie the game at 10-10 with 6:05 remaining. Campbell tallied on a free position with 4:41 remaining and Strazzula scored off an assist from Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) with 2:54 left. The Jumbos made it 12-11 when Sarah Williams (Bethesda, Md.) tallied with 1:11 left, but the Mules were able to hold on after that score.

The Jumbos scored the first three goals of the game and led 5-3 when Colby scored five unanswered goals to take the lead in the opening half. Tufts managed the final goal of the half to make it an 8-6 Mule advantage at the break. Sheridan scored off a free position with 15:24 left in regulation for a 10-7 Colby lead, but Tufts held the Mules scoreless for nearly 11 minutes in battling back to tie the game at 10-10.

Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) had three goals, while Sheridan and Strazzula both had two goals and one assist for the Mules. Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) scored twice and Libba Cox (Guilford, Conn.) added two assists. Williams paced the Jumbos with one goal and three assists. Alyssa Corbett (Malvern, Pa.) added two goals and one assist, while Lauren Murphy (Hingham, Mass.) and Maya Shoham (West Hartford, Conn.) both had two goals.
