Burton, Nazaruk Lead Big Red past Colorado College
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman attacker Brady Burton scored six goals and added an assist to lead the Denison University men's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Colorado College on Saturday night on the frozen turf at CC's Washburn Field.
Junior attacker Topher Nazaruk also had seven points with three goals and four assists, while senior attacker Clay Warner set up three DU scores to go with one tally.
Burton scored three times as the Big Red jumped out to an 8-1 lead with 7:39 remaining in the second quarter. He added is other four points during the first 7:16 of the second half as Denison extended its 8-3 halftime lead to 12-3.
Senior Chris Shopneck was busy at both ends of the field during the first half. He made eight saves during the first 30 minutes and provided CC's offensive highlight by racing end to end to score his first career goal with 8:56 remaining in the first period.
Junior midfielder Hunter Combs and sophomore midfielder Charley Perkins scored back-to-back goals late in the first half to cut the Colorado College's deficit to five, but the Big Red regained the momentum by opening the second half with four straight scores.
Junior attacker Shawn Maloney had a goal and an assist as the Tigers scored four of the final six markers to make the final score respectable.
Junior Alex Baruch made six saves to earn the victory in goal. Freshman Danny Wallace played the final 15:39 and recorded two saves. Shopneck finished with 14 saves.
Perkins and Combs had two goals and an assist to lead the CC attack.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday when they play host to Greensboro College at 7:00 p.m.
