HARRISONBURG, Va., April 8, 2007 -- Sixth-ranked James Madison held off a second-half Delaware comeback and came away with a 19-16 women's lacrosse win in Colonial Athletic Association play Sunday afternoon at the JMU Lacrosse Field.
JMU won its third game in a row and improved its overall record to 9-2 and remained unbeaten in the CAA at 2-0. Delaware, which entered the game riding a five-game winning streak, dropped to 6-4 overall and is 2-1 in league play. All four of the Blue Hens' losses this season have been to Top 20 teams.
In a game that was very even statistically, JMU never trailed and held an eight-goal (16-8) lead with 22:50 remaining.
However, Delaware outscored the Dukes 8-3 in the final 22 minutes to pull to within three but could get no closer.
