#2 North Carolina Bounces Back, Downs Ohio State
University Park, Pa. -- The University of North Carolina got four goals form freshman Megan Bosica and two goals and two assists from senior Melissa McCarthy as the No. 2-ranked Tar Heels wore down unranked Ohio State, 12-6, in collegiate women's lacrosse action on Sunday. The game was part of the annual Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge, hosted by Penn State University.
In addition to Bosica and McCarthy's offensive output, the Tar Heels got a goal and two assists from Christina Juras, two goals from Jess Allen, a goal and an assist from Chrissy Rude and single goals from Kristen Taylor and Kristen Carr. Kristen Hordy started and played the first 39:35 in goal for Carolina, allowing five goals and recording two saves. Logan Ripley finished the contest in the cage, allowing one goal and making two saves in 20:25 of action.
Ohio State was led by Jessica Patane's three goals. Carolina out-shot Ohio State by a 37-17 margin, won 21 ground balls to Ohio State's 11 and controlled 12 of 19 draws in the game.
UNC jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the 19:13 mark of the first half behind goals from Bosica, McCarthy and Taylor. The Buckeyes scored twice in a span of 1:10 to tie things at 3-3 before McCarthy scored an unassisted goal and dished to Juras for another score to make the score 5-3 UNC at the break.
Bosica scored the the first goal of the second half at the 28:07 mark to make it 6-3 before Patane and Amanda Shimp scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 6-5. Carolina's depth took over and wore down Ohio State, however, as UNC ripped off a 6-0 run in under five minutes to make the score 12-5 and put things out of reach. Allen scored twice during the 6-0 run.
With the victory, the Tar Heels improved to 11-2 this season and bounced back from Friday night's overtime loss to Penn State. Carolina will return to action on Friday with a road game at Virginia Tech. UNC will then host Longwood on Sunday April 15 at Fetzer Field.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (6-4) women’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-6 decision to second-ranked North Carolina (11-2) in the second day of play at the American Lacrosse Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Challenge played indoor in Hobula Hall on the campus of Penn State University. OSU’s Jessica Patane (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.) recorded a team-high three goals for the Buckeyes. North Carolina’s Megan Bosica recorded a game-high four goals for the Tar Heels.
North Carolina opened the scoring in the first half on a goal by Megan Bosica, assisted by Juras Christina at 23:07. The Buckeyes responded at 22:17 with a Patane goal assisted by Kristen Slahor (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.). The Tar Heels took a 2-1 lead at 21:33 with a Melissa McCarthy goal. North Carolina made it 3-1 with a Kristen Taylor goal at 19:13, assisted by McCarthy. A Keri Yourick goal at 16:03 cut the lead to one at 3-2. An eight-meter goal by Patane at 16:03 tied the game at three. McCarthy, at 11:48, put North Carolina back in the lead at 4-3. A Juras goal, assisted by McCarthy, at 4:28 ended the scoring for the half, giving North Carolina a 5-3 lead.

The run began with a Jess Allen goal, assisted by Juras, at 14:20. Kristen Carr made it 8-5 at 14:10. Bosica scored at 13:27 with an assist from Chrissy Rude. Rude then scored at 11:46 to take the lead to 10-5. Allen, at 10:30, and Bosica, at 9:41, completed the scoring run to give North Carolina a 12-5 lead. OSU’s Kelly Haggerty (Fr., West Chester, Pa.), with an assist from Natale Miller (Sr., West Chester, Pa.) scored at 6:19 to make the final margin, 12-6, in the contest.
