Lehigh Rallies to Earn 16-14 Win Against Colgate

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (4/6/07) – Lehigh scored six straight goals to begin the second half and break open a close game on its way to beating Colgate, 16-14, in women's lacrosse on Friday, April 6. The win boosts the Mountain Hawks' record to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League, while the Raiders fall to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Freshman Brie Moran (Little Silver, N.J.) paced Colgate with a career-high four goals. Sophomore Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored four goals, and junior Lindsay Pittard (Skaneateles, N.Y.) found the back of the net three times.

The Mountain Hawks' offense was paced by Inneke Carmola, who had seven goals. Seven other Lehigh players earned at least one point, including Sara MacIntyre, who had three goals and an assist.

After finishing the first half in an 8-8 tie, Colgate earned the first lead of the second half off a goal by senior Tara Casey (Syracuse, N.Y.). But that was the last time the Raiders would control the scoreboard. Lehigh scored the next six goals before Moran snapped the streak at the 12:03 mark. The teams traded goals before Colgate went on a streak of its own, netting four goals over a span of 22 minutes to make it a one-goal game, 15-14, with 2:34 to play. However, the Raiders couldn't get the equalizer, and Lehigh's Christy Smith scored an insurance goal with 31 seconds on the clock to finish the game.

The Raiders raced out to an early 3-0 lead, and were up 4-1 less than 12 minutes into the game. Lehigh scored twice to cut the deficit to one, 4-3, but Colgate responded with a pair of goals of its own within less than a minute. The Mountain Hawks netted two goals exactly one minute apart to make it a one-goal game again with less than 10 minutes left in the opening frame, and the teams traded goals for the rest of the half. Lehigh scored the last two goals of the session to set the score at 8-8 heading into the break.

Colgate returns home for its final four games of the regular season. The Raiders' homestand begins on Wednesday, April 11, when it hosts Syracuse at 7:00 p.m., at Tyler's Field.
