Boston University Posts 17-8 Victory over Harvard

BOSTON - The Boston University lacrosse team scored the game's first nine goals and never looked back en route to a convincing 17-8 victory over local rival Harvard on Monday evening at Nickerson Field. Junior Molly Collins recorded game highs of six ground balls, five draw controls and five caused turnovers to help the Terriers improve to an even 5-5 on the year.

Freshman Traci Landy recorded four goals and sophomore Sarah Dalton continued her strong play of late with a three-goal effort. Senior Angie Martin and sophomore Stephanie Walker each tallied a pair of goals and an assist.

Making her first career start in goal, redshirt freshman Rachel Klein turned in an impressive performance, making six saves while allowing just two goals. Junior Jenna Golden recorded three saves in the final 23:47.

Freshmen Jenny Taft, Jenny Martin and Xan Weitzel all recorded their first collegiate goal. Senior Kait Gentry scored her first goal of the season, while junior Lauren Morton and freshman McKinley Curro each found the back of the net once.

Sophomore Kaitlin Martin scored three goals for Harvard, which fell to 2-8 with the loss. Junior Caroline Simmons and freshman Sara Flood each scored twice for the visitors, who also got a seven-save performance from freshman goalkeeper Katherine Martino.

The Terriers scored a goal in each of the first four minutes of play and added five more to take a 9-0 lead with 14:03 left in the opening half.

After Harvard got on the board with consecutive tallies, BU reeled off seven straight goals spanning the halves, creating a 16-2 cushion with less than 22 minutes remaining in regulation. The visitors scored six of the game's final seven goals to create the 17-8 final.

BU outshot Harvard, 32-21, and held a 17-10 advantage in draw controls. The Terriers owned a slim 17-16 edge in ground balls, while each team converted three free-position opportunities.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday, April 11, when they play host to Albany for a conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
