Mount Ida Surges Past Emerson, 24-3

NEWTON, Mass. (April 11, 2007) The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 24-3 victory over North Atlantic Conference foe Emerson College this afternoon at the Mount Ida Athletic Stadium. With the win, the Mustangs extended their winning streak to 26 games versus league foes. They have captured victories in each of their last six contests.

Sophomore attackman Brett Conley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) paced Mount Ida with four goals. Classmates Chris Prophete (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) notched hat tricks, while junior Andrew Cloonan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin/Dean CC) and sophomore Leo Shidler (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) tallied two goals and four assists apiece.

Emerson's goals were scored by junior Matt Horowitz (Livingston, N.J.), senior Chris Chopek (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) and freshman John Munroe (Danvers, Mass.).

Mount Ida jumped out to a 5-1 edge midway through the first period. A pair of goals by the Lions sliced the deficit to 5-3 at the 1:54 mark of the opening frame. From there it was all Mustangs, as the hosts exploded for the contest's last 19 markers.

All phases of the game were controlled by Mount Ida. The Mustangs outshot Emerson 64-7 and won 21 of the 30 face-offs. The owned a 63-18 edge in the ground ball column, and both squads capitalized on one man-up opportunity.

Senior goaltender Kyle Bowler (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) made one save en route to his fifth win in net for Mount Ida. Emerson sophomore netminder Dean Smollar (Fairfax, Va.) stopped 19 shots in a losing effort.

Mount Ida (7-3, 4-0 NAC) will take the field again on Saturday, when it hosts Johnson State College for a league game beginning at 1:00 p.m. Emerson (3-6, 2-3 NAC) is slated to entertain the Maine Maritime Academy in a NAC showdown on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
