Boston University Hands Albany 19-8 Defeat

BOSTON – The Boston University women's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to post a 19-8 America East win over the University at Albany Wednesday afternoon at Nickerson Field. With the win, the Terriers improve to 6-5 overall, 2-1 in the conference, while the Great Danes drop to 5-7, 1-2 in the America East.

Junior Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass.) led BU on the attack, tallying five goals and two assists for a game-high seven points. Junior Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa.) added four goals, and senior Angie Martin (Catonsville, Md.) and sophomore Sarah Dalton (Cornwall, Vt.) each scored a hat trick for the Terriers. Freshman Christine Grueniger (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was Albany's leading scorer with three goals.

BU had trouble generating offense early in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead on three straight free position goals. Collins gave the Terriers a 5-0 lead with 18:12 remaining in the half with her second and third goals, but UA came back after two tallies by senior Kate Fontana (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Grueniger. But the Terriers knocked in seven of the next nine goals in the first half to take a commanding 12-4 lead into the locker room.

BU continued on its scoring rampage to start the second half, posting the first four goals of the frame to extend its advantage to 12 goals, 16-4, with 19:34 to go in the game. The Terriers were never threatened after that.

Junior Jenna Golden (Suffern, N.Y.) and red-shirt freshman Rachel Klein (Forest Hill, Md.) each made eight saves in net for the Terriers. Senior Jen Daly (Stowe, Pa.) and sophomore Katie Neer (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) totaled five saves in goal for the Great Danes.

UA was 4-for-15 on free position attempts, while BU was nearly perfect (8-for-9). Each team was foul-prone, as the combined foul total for both teams was 53.

The Terriers close out a three-game home stand with America East foe Binghamton on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
