No. 5 Bryant Defeats Bentley to Go 4-0 in NE-10
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's lacrosse sophomore Kevin Hoagland, Matt McKeefrey and Bryan Kaufmann scored three goals each to lead the Bulldog men's lacrosse team to an 11-5 win over visiting Bentley College Thursday night.
The win, Bryant's fifth-straight, improves the Bulldogs to 5-2 on the year and 4-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bentley, which got a pair of goals from Craig Cormier, drops to 3-5 and 2-3 in the NE-10.
Idle for a little over two weeks, the Bulldogs were a bit rusty at the start, falling behind 2-1 late in the first quarter, but an unassisted goal from Jim Long with just over two minutes left in the quarter tied things up at 2-2 apiece.
From there, the Bulldogs took the game over as McKeefrey scored back-to-back goals, one coming right off the opening face off of the second quarter as the speedster picked up a loose ball and easily slipped one past starting Bentley goalie Kris Dambach.
A few minutes later, McKeefrey would make it 4-2 Bryant scoring after making a nifty move behind the cage and scoring on a dive across the front. Leading 7-3 at the half, two goals from Kaufmann and another by Hoagland put the game away and the Bulldogs emptied the bench.
Bryant will host Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Five goals in the second-period helped the Bulldogs pull away as Bryant captured an 11-5 win over the Bentley men's lacrosse team on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Bryant Turf Field. The Bulldogs, ranked fifth in the nation, elevated their record to 5-2 (4-0 NE-10) while the Falcons dropped to 3-5 (2-3 NE-10).
After sophomore Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored the first of his three goals for Bryant, Bentley struck with a pair of tallies from senior Craig Cormier (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) and freshman Kevin Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Jim Long (Durham, N.H.) evened the score for Bryant by scoring an unassisted tally before the end of the first.
The Bulldogs regained the lead and put the game out of reach by outscoring the Falcons, 5-1, in the second period. Sophomore Matt McKeefrey (Melville, N.Y.) scored a hat trick in the frame, giving Bryant the lead for good with a pair of goals to open the period and adding a man-up goal, the eventual game-winner, later in the period to give the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead. Cormier scored the only goal for the Falcons in the second and sophomore Brian Kaufmann (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored the first of his three goals to give Bryant a 7-3 halftime lead.
Each side traded goals in the third period, with sophomore Chris Woods (Duxbury, Mass./Sandwich HS) striking for the Falcons to make it 8-4 with one period to go, but the Bulldogs netted three more unanswered goals in the fourth quarter before freshman Brad Tunis (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury HS) wrapped up the scoring for Bentley.
Bryant outshot the Falcons, 41-30, and held a 21-18 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore Kris Dambach (Chester, N.J./West Morris Central HS) made eight saves for the Falcons before classmate Zach Gostanian (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) came in for the last seven minutes and stopped both shots he faced. Junior Michael Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 13 saves between the pipes for the Bulldogs.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday when they return home to host Saint Michael's at 6:00 p.m.
