NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 11, 2007) - A total of 13 different players scored goals for the C.W. Post women's lacrosse team Wednesday night at Jess Dow Field, as the No. 1-ranked Pioneers defeated host Southern Connecticut, 14-5.

C.W. Post (10-0) scored the first eight goals of the game, with sophomore Katie Hogan opening the scoring 43 seconds in. Southern Connecticut (1-6) stopped the run with under 12 minutes left in the first half, before Samantha Lyons fired home a pass from senior Shannon Fabian (1 g, 3 a) with 7:33 left, as the visitors took a 9-1 lead into halftime.

The Owls' Grace Martin scored her second goal of the game on a free-position shot 1:50 into the second half, before Sonya Senra scored her first career goal on a free-position effort with 23:26 left for C.W. Post. Southern's Allison Kownacki and the Pioneers' Brianne Jackolski alternated free-position tallies, with the latter starting a 4-0 spurt by the visitors. Caitlin Heraghty scored her first career goal off a pass from Corynne Pereira with 9:06 left in the game.

Freshman Kelli Fundus scored two goals to lead C.W. Post, while Lauren Scipione (40:21, 3 ga, 2 svs.) and former SCSU keeper Ann Denning (19:39, 2 ga, 3 svs.) combined for five saves in the Pioneers cage.

Head coach Karen MacCrate Henning and the Pioneers are back in action Sunday afternoon (April 15), as they play host to Bentley at Hickox Field. Opening draw is slated for 2:00 p.m.
