Phelps, Phipps Send Randolph-Macon Past Lynchburg

ASHLAND, VA – Lacy Phelps and Traci Phipps each scored four goals and added an assist to help lead the Randolph-Macon College women's lacrosse team past visiting Lynchburg College 17-6 on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, R-MC improves to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the ODAC while Lynchburg drops to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Phelps and Phipps were joined in the scoring column by Lizzy Spero, Alex Wright, Laura Fox and Morgan Hutchinson who all had two goals in the win while Emily Kent chipped in with a goal of her own. Lindsay Schabert made 11 stops in net for R-MC.

Deana Welsch led LC with four goals while Nichole Locher had two assists and Ji-Yung Eun made seven stops in net for the Hornets.

Phelps, Phipps and Hutchinson each scored in the first 6:19 of the game to put R-MC up 3-0 early. Sarah Rahl got the Hornets on the board before Alex Wright and Phelps scored to put the Jackets up 5-1.

After Welsch cut the lead to 5-2 with a goal at the 18:26 mark of the first-half, R-MC scored the next six goals of the game to go up 11-2 and put the game away.

The Yellow Jackets will close out the regular season on Tuesday when it welcomes Catholic University to Ashland for a 4:30 p.m. game.
