#5 TCNJ Halts Elizabethtown's Winning Streak

Ewing, NJ - The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team raced out to a big lead early and never looked back as the Lions snapped Elizabethtown College's seven-game winning streak with a 19-11 victory at Lions' Stadium on Thursday.

The win puts the Lions at 8-1 on the season and they have now outscored the opposition by a combined 32-11 over the last two games, with the 19 goals against the Elizabethtown being a season high. The Lions face a tough test on Saturday as they head to second-ranked Salisbury University for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Sea Gulls.

The loss put the Blue Jays at 8-2 on the season as they became the first team this season to reach double figures in goals against the Lions.

TCNJ netted the first eight goals of the game as Kate Neese (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) each scored twice during that span.

The Lions took their biggest lead of the half at 11-2, but the Blue Jays made a nice run in the late stages of the half to scoring three of the last four goals. Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) scored two of those goals, while Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) had the other. Foley entered the game as one of the top goal scorers in the nation, but TCNJ's defense limited her to just that one goal in the opening 30 minutes.

The Lions tallied the opening two goals in the second half 16-5 lead, before the Blue Jays made a couple of small runs later in the half closing the final margin to eight.

Neese led a balanced TCNJ attack with five goals and one assist with Gordon finishing with four goals. Kelly Mitchell (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had a strong game as well with three goals.

The duo of Foley and Caprinolo each scored four times for Elizabethtown as Foley is rapidly closing in on the 50-goal plateau with raising her season total to 47.

Junior Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) backstopped the win for the Lions with 11 saves, while for the Blue Jays Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made 15 saves.
